How to care for a rottweiler

Proper maintenance of the dog involves not only ensuring a rational, balanced diet, regular walking and compulsory vaccination, but also compliance with hygiene standards.

Good health and attractive appearance of the animal is also the result of systematic care for it. It is useful for each owner to know about those hygienic and preventive measures that will help the pet maintain good health, vitality, always look well-groomed and fit, have a well-groomed, shiny coat. The following are guidelines for grooming your dog. Compliance with them will also help in time to detect signs of diseases of the skin, eyes or ears, as well as some infectious diseases.

During a walk, playing outside, dogs often get small injuries to their paw pads (for example, stepping on broken glass fragments, sharp spikes of plants, stones with sharp edges, etc.). Therefore, examination of the paws and claws should be carried out after each walk. It is also necessary to take into account the weak sensitivity to pain among representatives of this breed: the dog may not show any signs of anxiety and at first not even feel discomfort from the sensation of a glass fragment or wood chips stuck between the paw pads. However, if you do not remove the foreign body in a timely manner, serious inflammation of the skin and soft tissues may develop.

Often, dogs, playing on the street, stain their paws with oil paint, asphalt resin, fuel oil, etc. The spots remaining on the paw pads should be removed with ordinary solvents for paints and varnishes that can be found in every home. Before wiping traces of paint or resin with a swab moistened with solvent, grease the stained area with warm vegetable oil or grease. This will soften the skin and prevent itching and irritation.

During snowmelt, when dogs have to walk along the spring slush, they often show signs of dermatitis (inflammation of the skin). To prevent such an unpleasant disease, it is necessary, having returned from a walk, thoroughly wash the rottweiler's paws with warm water and soap and wipe the pads dry. If skin irritation does occur, you should immediately contact your veterinarian.

Dogs should wash their paws upon returning from a walk in any weather and at any time of the year. Then they need to be wiped with a towel or a separate piece of soft cloth.

Rottweiler claws should also be inspected regularly, and as they grow back, be shortened with the help of special tools - pruning shears and nail clippers for dogs or gently file them with a large file with three faces. Too long claws often lead to the fact that the dog begins to fall on the forelimbs, and in addition, it can get inflammation of the periungual cushion.

This usually happens if the Rottweiler is not walking along an asphalt street, but, for example, in a front garden where the soil is loose and soft and the dog’s claws literally crash into it. With the movement of the dog, the paws come to the ground with the entire surface of the paws, and if there are too long claws, the paw can be deformed.

Processing a dog's claws with a clipper

The color of the claws of the Rottweiler is dark, so it is often very difficult to distinguish between the dead part and the living tissue of each claw. When cutting the claws it remains only to observe how painfully the dog reacts to the ongoing procedure. In any case, after trimming the claws with pruning shears or clipping their edges, grind them slightly using a file. If the owner does not have confidence that he will be able to cope well with this manipulation independently, then for the first time it is better to turn to an experienced dog breeder for help.

It is necessary to constantly monitor the appearance of the pet's claws. If cracks, creases, scratches are found on them, periodically treat them with a small amount of animal fat. Claw fragility most often indicates a lack of vitamin A in the dog's body. In this case, the content of this vitamin in the Rottweiler diet should be increased.

Some dogs have dewclaws that may not be removed. Often the claws of such animals are bent inward and grow into the soft tissues surrounding them. This causes pain during movement, creates obstacles during games and, in addition, can lead to the development of the inflammatory process. If the rottweiler has dewclaws, it is necessary to carefully monitor the condition of the dog's claws, not forgetting to regularly trim their curved edges.

Rottweiler is a breed of shorthair dogs, but nonetheless, their coat also needs regular grooming. To preserve the beauty and shine of the coat, the dog requires quite frequent cleaning, combing off dead hair, massage. A brush with medium hardness bristles is used to clean the coat: it should not scratch the dog’s skin and at the same time should not be too soft, otherwise it will become difficult to remove dirt after only a few uses.

Before starting the cleaning, a light massage should be performed: stroke the dog with a hand against the coat for 2-3 minutes, and then in the same direction - against the coat - clean it with a brush.

After cleaning, you need to take a frequent comb with not too sharp teeth and slowly comb the hair of the rottweiler in the direction of hair growth. This simple procedure is also a kind of massage that helps to improve muscle tone and stimulate the blood circulation.

The brush and comb should be stored in a specially designated place for this, regularly washed with warm water and soap and disinfected. To care for the hair of large dogs, a special mitten is often used, which is very convenient to use. It is best to clean an adult dog when it rests with its front paws on a low bench and its hind legs on the ground. With this position of the body of the Rottweiler, the movements of the brush and comb during brushing will be smoother.

Brushing and combing of the hair starts from the back and neck of the dog, then goes to the stomach, then to the chest, legs and tail. It should be noted that grooming is a rather pleasant procedure for the Rottweiler, because even among wild animals there is such a ritual as licking and cleaning the hair of your fellow tribesmen, which helps to establish friendly contacts in the pack.

In order to give the appearance of a pet's coat more gloss (at exhibitions and performances in the ring, the rottweiler should look like a true aristocrat), you can use for additional cleaning a piece of velvet fabric or suede with which to polish the wool.

Hair Care - One of the Main Puppy Hygiene Procedures

During seasonal molting (in spring and autumn), it is necessary to increase the number of brushings and combing the hair with a comb: this is necessary to maintain cleanliness in the house. Otherwise, the dog will leave shreds of hair everywhere: on carpets, upholstered furniture, on slippers. For a more successful restoration of the coat during and after shedding, it is necessary to enrich the Rottweiler diet with products that are high in calories. At this time, fish oil, raw beef, boiled eggs, beef and lamb liver will be most beneficial for the dog.

When caring for the fur of a four-legged friend, it is necessary to pay attention to whether there are scratches, abrasions, wounds, hard plaques, hairless areas, as well as parasitic insects (fleas, ticks) on his skin. Minor skin lesions should be treated independently, using iodine tincture, a solution of brilliant green or ethyl alcohol for this purpose. If the wound is large enough (from 2-3 cm or more), you must show the dog to the veterinarian. A visit to the veterinarian is also inevitable if you suspect the presence of lichen, fungal diseases and other infectious skin lesions. If lice, fleas, ticks are found on the animal’s hair, it must be treated with special compounds against parasitic insects.

If during the grooming of the pet’s hair the owner noticed that it had recently faded, lost its former gloss or its growth began to slow down, then you need to try to correct this flaw by making some adjustments to the dog’s diet. It is advisable to increase the intake of vegetable oils in the daily Rottweiler menu or add margarine, which contains vegetable fats, to cereals and soups. Such a diet usually improves the quality of the coat, and also has a beneficial effect on the health of the dog as a whole.

Walking the Rottweiler in the winter, you can give him a short massage, rubbing the coat with clean, soft snow. This will also serve as an excellent hardening procedure.

Hygiene of the ears and their correct formation

Dog care should be approached with particular care and caution. Ear mites are the true scourge of many pets, including Rottweilers. Of particular concern to these parasites are dogs on hot summer days. Therefore, in the summer, examination of the ears of puppies and adult dogs should be carried out daily, and in the cooler time of the year - at least once every 7-10 days.

In addition, the ears of the Rottweiler should be regularly cleaned of street dirt and earwax accumulated in them. This procedure should be carried out as follows. Previously (it is best for the day) you need to drop one drop of slightly warmed vegetable oil into each dog’s ear using a regular pipette. Then, taking a small cotton-gauze swab, moisten it with vegetable oil and carefully treat the inside of the auricles. Heavily contaminated ears should be additionally wiped with a swab moistened with a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide, which can be purchased at a pharmacy.

Lack of hygienic care for the ears and blockage of their sulfur plugs can cause serious inflammatory processes that can lead to hearing loss in the dog.

With the help of thin cotton buds made of wood or plastic moistened with boric alcohol solution, the ear canals are cleaned of sulfur plugs and other contaminants. A stick designed to clean the ears should not be pushed too deep into the auricle, otherwise the eardrum may be damaged.

Signs of a possible tick infection are frequent scratching of the ears with the paws, rotation of the head in different directions.

If the pet appears dark brown, having an unpleasant smell of discharge from the ears, it is urgent to consult a veterinarian. You should also consult a veterinarian if you have noticed that a Rottweiler often scratches his ear, tilts his head to one side, or shakes it. These symptoms may indicate ear disease.

Dogs often injure their ears. The resulting wounds with proper antiseptic treatment sometimes heal without consequences, but in some cases hematomas can develop.

If this happens, the pet will need the help of a surgeon.

The ears of the dog should be clean.

If during a walk in frosty or wet weather the dog’s ears freeze (they will be cold to the touch), then this indicates overcooling of the whole organism. This means that it is necessary to stop walking and return home in order to avoid a cold illness at the Rottweiler.

In addition to carrying out hygiene measures aimed at maintaining the cleanliness of the ears, it is necessary to pay attention to their proper formation in the puppy. During the period when the Rottweiler’s milk teeth are replaced by permanent teeth, he needs a large amount of calcium. In the process of metabolism, the calcium contained in the cartilaginous tissue of the ears is intensively consumed by the body, as a result of which the ears become weakened, soft and folded. Strengthening the cartilage of the ears and their normal formation helps a special massage that needs to be done regularly, preferably every day (if necessary 2-3 times a day).

Massage the ears is as follows. The Rottweiler is planted so that the occipital part of his head is facing the one who will be doing the massage. The dog’s head must be held straight, gently massaging the area between the ears. Then, bending your ears back, you should feel on each of them a small cartilage that protrudes forward at the base of the ear.

Click on the areas located just above these cartilaginous bones with the index fingers of both hands, and the middle fingers down under the protruding part of each cartilage.

The thumbs of both hands are placed on the outside of each ear at its very base.

In this case, the thumb should be located strictly opposite the index and middle.

Massaging the ears of a Rottweiler puppy

After that, you can start ear massage. It is done with the thumbs of both hands: the puppy’s right ear is massaged with the right, and the left is massaged with the left.

The thumbs should first move to the sides, then up and finally forward (over the index and middle fingers, which press the ear from its inner side). At the end of the massaging movements, the front edge of the dog’s ear is guided so that it is parallel to the line of its cheek.

In some cases, in order to avoid deformation of the ears, special bandages are used that perform the function of fixators. Strengthening bandages on the ears of the pet should be performed by a veterinarian or specialist dog specialist.

At certain intervals, tightly fixed bandages must be loosened to allow free access to the dog’s ears.

Too long wearing of puppies bandages without airing can lead to the multiplication of pathogenic microbes and the development of inflammatory processes.

Eye and nose hygiene

All dogs, even quite healthy ones, may develop small purulent discharge that accumulates in the corners of their eyes. The secretions are carefully removed with a piece of clean gauze or a soft, thin cloth. It is better not to use cotton wool, since the fibers that separate from it irritate the mucous membrane of the dog’s eyes. More abundant discharge can be caused by strong winds, drafts, clogged eyes with dust, etc. Most often, the eyelids become inflamed if they are not tight enough to the eyeballs.

To relieve inflammation and reduce purulent secretions, infusions of medicinal plants with a bactericidal effect are used. An infusion of chamomile flowers is best suited: preparing a decoction at the rate of 1 tbsp. spoon of dried medicinal raw materials per 1 glass of water, the resulting product is insisted for 15-20 minutes, filtered and cooled to room temperature. With a ready-made infusion, moisten a cotton swab and treat the dog's eyes, gently rubbing them in the direction from their outer corners to the nose. For each eye, you need to prepare a separate swab. Infusion for washing the eyes should always be fresh.

It is not recommended to use infusion of strong tea for washing the eyes, since it contains substances that cause irritation of the mucous membranes.

With severe inflammation of the eyelids, albumin is instilled into the eyes. You can not use a solution of boric acid: it contains small insoluble crystals that will irritate the mucous membrane of the eyes.

After the procedure for administering the treatment solution, it is necessary to ensure that the dog does not rub its eyes with its paws and does not shake its head. When administering the drug with a pipette, the dog should be in a sitting position. Some of the pets should be asked to hold the dog's head, fixing it in a stationary state. The eyelids gently open with the left hand (thumb and forefinger), and the required amount of the drug is instilled into the eyes with the right hand.

When instilling the drug into the eyes, the pipette should be kept so that it does not touch the eyeball.

Usually a dog’s health status is judged by feeling its nose. If the skin of the nose is cool and moist, it means that there are no serious disorders in her body. A clear sign of an animal’s disease is a hot, dry, and cracked nose. If there is also the presence of greenish discharge from the nostrils, drying out in the form of rough crusts, as well as severe hardening of the skin of the nose and purulent discharge from the eyes, this may indicate a serious infectious disease of the dog - the plague. At the first suspicion of this disease or other infections, you should immediately consult a veterinarian.

A nose that is warm to the touch is not necessarily a symptom of a disease. It should be borne in mind that a certain increase in skin temperature can be observed in a pet after waking up or after active physical activity.

It is recommended to wipe the contaminated skin of the nose with a piece of soft, clean cloth dipped in slightly warm water.

Oral hygiene

Maintaining healthy teeth is crucial for any dog, especially a service dog. Therefore, each owner should regularly monitor the condition of his pet's teeth.

When the first signs of tartar formation — a yellowish plaque — appear, the dog’s teeth should be cleaned with a thin cotton swab, applying a little toothpaste to it that does not have a specific odor. After brushing, the pet’s teeth should be wiped with a moist cotton-gauze swab, and then with a piece of dry soft tissue. This procedure is recommended to be carried out regularly, as a rule, at least 1 time per month.

If there is no suitable toothpaste on hand or your pet does not respond well to it, you can use a special cleaning powder instead. To prepare it, ordinary school chalk, crushed into powder, is mixed with the required amount of citric acid or drinking soda and applied to a moistened swab to brush your teeth.

The lack of regular care for the dog’s oral cavity leads to the formation of tartar, which negatively affects the condition of tooth enamel, causes gum inflammation, their weakening and bleeding. As a result, dental calculus can lead to loosening and tooth loss.

Dog brushing

An important preventive measure to strengthen the teeth is the introduction of fresh tomato juice or fresh tomatoes (at least 1-3 times a week) into the dog’s diet.

It is also recommended to give her raw brain bones - this is always a good training for the teeth, and besides, dogs really like to gnaw them.

In case of gum disease, the mouth of the rottweiler should be treated with a cotton-gauze swab moistened with a weak, slightly warm solution of potassium permanganate.

You cannot treat inflammation on your own, it is better to immediately seek help from a veterinarian.

Consultation with a veterinarian will also be necessary if a dog shows signs of caries. You may need to make any adjustments to the diet of the Rottweiler in order to stop the development of dental disease.

If any small objects are stuck between the teeth - bone fragments, the remnants of a wooden stick that the dog was chewing on - they should be carefully removed to avoid injuring the gums and the development of inflammatory processes.

Hygiene of organs of excretion and reproduction

The condition of the genitals of dogs (both males and females) should also be monitored regularly and if signs of any disease are detected, immediately show your pet to the veterinarian. The most pronounced symptoms of the disease can be white discharge, often indicating a violation of the urinary system.

Inflammation and blockage of the anal glands require special treatment by a veterinarian; in advanced cases, surgical intervention is necessary.

A serious problem is the blockage of the anal glands, as well as their inflammation. The presence of these diseases can be judged by the following signs: an increase in the anal glands, the appearance of brownish or light purulent discharge from the anus, restless behavior of the dog (it often scratches in the anal area, rubs against the ground backwards).

The procedure for cleaning the anal glands, which is required to prevent clogging, can be carried out by the owners of the dogs themselves, as the veterinarian will explain.

Rottweilers are not recommended to use too frequent water procedures; bathing a dog of this breed is necessary only if the coat is very dirty, for example, if during a walk it falls out in the mud and washing your paws alone is clearly not enough.

Puppies can be bathed in a small metal bath or basin. Owners often wash adult rottweilers in a shared bath, which is, in principle, quite acceptable if the bath is treated with a disinfectant after washing the dog.

When bathing a dog, you need to adhere to a number of rules. Water for washing puppies and adult rottweilers should not be hot, its optimal temperature is 28-30 ° C. Before you start washing your dog, you should make sure that no water gets into your ears: for this you need to put cotton balls in them, slightly lubricated with petroleum jelly. A bath or a basin is filled with water by one third.

Bathing begins with uniformly wetting the entire coat of the animal with water, then a special shampoo for dogs is applied to the wet coat (you can also use baby shampoo that does not contain perfume additives with a strong odor), distribute the foam throughout the body in the direction from the neck to the limbs. It is recommended to quickly wash off the soap foam with clean water, since prolonged contact with alkaline additives contained in shampoos can cause skin irritation.

The dog’s head should be washed last. This should be done very carefully and gently so that water and soap foam do not get into your eyes and ears. At the end of the bath, it is imperative to wipe the pet with a soft towel specially allocated for this purpose. After use, the towel is thoroughly dried, and if necessary, washed separately from other things.

If there are nonsome parasites on the dog’s coat, special shampoos against fleas or lice-eaters should be used during bathing. These medications can be purchased at the pet store. Without special need to use insecticidal shampoos for washing a dog is not worth it.

To fight insects parasitizing on dog’s hair, they often use tried and tested folk remedies: chilled decoctions and water infusions of wormwood, hellebore, dried chamomile flowers, and others. They are added to the water when bathing the dog. Decoctions and infusions of medicinal herbs are completely harmless to the pet, but getting rid of insects with their help is possible only with repeated use.

The puppy should be gradually accustomed to regular washing, and then in the future he will freely let him bathe and, perhaps, even love this hygienic procedure.

Summer swimming in a river or pond is very useful for Rottweilers.

You should not wash the dog if it is sick, as well as at low air temperatures. In general, in the winter it is better to refrain from bathing, and during the walk you should sometimes wipe the pet’s coat with clean snow. The greatest benefit to the body of puppies and adult rottweilers is summer swimming. Such water procedures improve the dog’s muscle tone, strengthen its immunity to diseases, and develop the respiratory system.

When leaving the dog for nature, where there is a natural reservoir, it is important to conduct classes with the pet, teaching him to swim and bring a sliver, ball or twig thrown into the water. However, such exercises on the water should be started with great care. Young rottweilers may be afraid of water, and you will first have to teach the dog how to overcome fear of the water element, otherwise the animal may develop a persistent dislike for the bathing process and water games. In no case should you throw a puppy into the water: this can cause him severe fright, and getting water into his ears will negatively affect the dog’s health.

You should not conduct classes with a puppy and bathe him in reservoirs with dirty, stagnant, overgrown with duckweed water: it can be a source of various infections. You should also bypass the ponds with a fast current, which pose a danger to a fragile dog.

Classes in swimming and delivery to the owner of the object thrown into the water should begin in shallow places, and as the pet learns to swim well, he will be able to exercise in deeper parts of the reservoir. For a well-completed task, the dog must be praised or given some treat.

Rottweiler Health

If a rottweiler has already been bought or donated, it is necessary, firstly, to take care of his health. To get started, take your dog to the veterinarian and decide how long he will be vaccinated. This is the most necessary measure to care for the health of the animal.

The first vaccination against various diseases is given in half a year. Before that, give the dog parasite pills to empty the stomach. A year later, a second rabies vaccine is given. Once every six months, wash your pet in warm water with a special flea shampoo from the pet store.

Rottweiler feeding

The dog also needs a healthy diet: it must receive full vitamins. You need to feed it three times a day in medium portions. Water should change every time. A simple dog is fed with waste, but a dog of this breed cannot be fed with anything, it can cause diarrhea. Rottweiler loves a tasty meal, so try to cook separately for him.

His favorite product is, of course, meat. It can be different: both boiled and raw. You need to cook porridge every day, changing their appearance, for example: on Monday and Thursday - buckwheat, and Tuesday and Friday - rice. Also do not forget about vitamins, of course, you can give them in tablets, where the whole diet is grouped, but you must not forget about fresh fruits and vegetables. Each Rottweiler loves its fruit or vegetable, someone eats tomatoes, someone apples and even cucumbers.

Rottweiler Care

Rottweiler hair is small, which allows not only to keep the animal in the yard, but also in the apartment. Care will be much easier than with long-haired dogs. If the pet lives in the yard, it is necessary to build an aviary at least 2 meters in order to allow the dog to move. Do not forget to let the Rottweiler walk around the yard. It is better if the walk will take place in the park, on foot or light jogging.

Dog training

The Rottweiler needs to be trained constantly, throughout the year, three times a week. When leaving home, put on a leash and a muzzle. This dog is athletic and cannot be seated. Teach her to other animals and the noise of cars so that when she leaves the house she is not afraid.

You need to train a rottweiler from three months. Repeat commands every day for 30 minutes. Give your puppy a favorite treat for the completed action.

The acquisition of a dog, and even more thoroughbred, is a great responsibility. It’s easy to take care of the Rottweiler, and the impression of obedience and success of the pet will please any owner.

What is needed to keep a puppy?

Even before acquiring a Rottweiler puppy, it is necessary to create conditions that are comfortable for the dog - equip a personal place and purchase everything for proper care of the pet.

A sunbed for a four-legged friend is best arranged in a corner - where households will not, moving from one room to another, touch the sleeping pet with its feet. It is not recommended to arrange a rest area for a puppy near a window or door, where drafts often occur. A place near the battery will also be a bad choice.

It is advisable to eliminate or minimize loud sounds from audio and video equipment, a working washing machine and other household appliances.

It is very important to pre-acquire all the attributes that are useful in pet care:

  • combs
  • brushes
  • leash
  • collar,
  • muzzle,
  • feeder and drinker,
  • feeding stand,
  • toys.

If you plan to keep a dog in a private house, then in the warm season you can mark the dog in a spacious aviary. As soon as the temperature begins to drop below the 10 degree mark - the rottweiler needs to be taken home, keeping the animal on the street in the winter is unacceptable.

We draw attention to the fact that being in an enclosure does not replace regular walking outside it, the animal needs physical activity, otherwise the dog starts to get sick.

What to feed?

Rottweilers belong to the category of molosses - this means that they are not too active and have a predisposition to being overweight. This fact should be taken into account when developing a menu for your pet. As a rule, an adult is quite enough 800-900 g of feed per day. In the period of intensive training, as well as with the aviary content, the dosage can be increased. A newborn puppy feeds on breast milk, monthly can already be fed. The feeding rate for young rottweilers is:

  • young puppies up to 2 months old are fed 5-6 times a day at equal intervals, excluding night time,
  • from 2 to 4 months, the number of feedings is reduced to four,
  • after the dog reaches 6 months, the dog is gradually transferred to an adult diet - twice a day.

Keep in mind that rottweilers value stability very much, so feed should be delivered to bowls every day at the same time, for example, at 8 and 20 hours or at 7 and 19, depending on your capabilities.

Some breeders prefer one-time feeding, but this is rather a necessary measure for owners with strong employment - an excessively large portion is not fully absorbed by the body and this is fraught with serious digestive problems.

It is difficult to give an unequivocal answer to the question of which type of feeding is preferable - natural food or dry food. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. So, dry products are more convenient to use, store and transport. You do not have to spend time on the purchase of all the necessary components of the diet and on the preparation of the mash, in addition, store feed is enriched with all the necessary vitamins and minerals, which means that there is no need for dietary supplements. Natural food for the animal is preferable, but the owner will have to spend a lot of time in the kitchen to provide his pet with balanced and nutritious nutrition. Please note that when feeding natural products, the animal additionally needs to include vitamins and minerals in the diet, however, this is not a problem, since you can buy the necessary complexes at any zoo pharmacy.

If you prefer dry food, then you should choose products not lower than the super-premium class, preferably holistic, always marked “for large dogs with an average degree of activity”.

Natural feeding should be at least half the source of animal proteins, usually low-fat meats - veal, beef or rabbit meat.A couple of times a week, you can replace meat with quality offal - heart, udder or liver, and once a week - sea fish, preference should be given to hake or cod.

It is very important for dogs to get carbohydrates, which are considered sources of energy for dogs. Their animals are obtained from cereals cooked in meat broth or milk without butter, sugar and salt. In addition, the Rottweiler needs to ensure the daily presence in the menu of vegetables - carrots, pumpkins, zucchini or cauliflower. They are included in the mixes raw or steamed. It will be useful to fill the cereal with a small amount of vegetable oil and chopped juicy greens.

Once a week, the animal should be given fermented milk products - low-fat cottage cheese, yogurt or kefir, as well as a chicken egg.

The following products are not allowed in the diet:

  • pork,
  • cream or butter,
  • bakery products,
  • sweets of all kinds - sweets, chocolate, pastry,
  • fried and smoked foods
  • high starch vegetables - potatoes and melon,
  • pickles and pickles,
  • legumes.

To avoid injury to the digestive tract, don’t give bones to the Rottweilers, but from time to time offering cartilage to your pet will not be out of place - they train the jaw and at the same time clean the teeth of the stone.

Regardless of what type of feeding you have chosen, the pet should have free round-the-clock access to the drinker with clean drinking water.

After each feeding, the half-eaten leftovers are thrown out, snacks for the Rottweilers are unacceptable - the animal must have strict food discipline.

Hygiene rules

Rottweiler is a dog that does not require specialized care.

  • Wool processing comes down to combing 2-3 times a week, during molting, the procedure is carried out daily. Keep in mind - you need to teach your pet to this procedure from early childhood, otherwise an adult pet will resist.

  • Rottweilers are bathed no more than 2-3 times a year, if it is very dirty, it can be rinsed with warm water or the soiled areas of the wool can be cleaned with a damp towel. For washing, it is better to use special shampoos for shorthair dogs, the optimum water temperature is 28-30 degrees.

  • Rottweiler ears are the main congestion of pathogenic bacteria, therefore, they need to be properly looked after - daily examined for microtrauma and inflammation, at least 3 times a week they should be wiped with a cotton pad soaked in boric alcohol.

  • Once a week, you need to wipe the eyes with a decoction of chamomile or a weak solution of furacilin.

  • With enough walks on hard ground, the Rottweilers claws grind on their own, if the dog moves mainly on a soft base, then this does not happen, so the claws must be carefully cut with a special clipper. You should not neglect this procedure - long claws cause the animal significant discomfort and often lead to injury to the dog during games. In addition, due to constant pain, the Rottweilers incorrectly set the limbs, respectively, the load on the joints and spine is distributed disproportionately, which leads to pathologies of the musculoskeletal system.

  • The teeth of the animal also need attention from the breeder - Rottweilers are predisposed to tartar, so you need to brush your pet at least once a week, and to prevent gum problems, periodically give bones from beef veins.

  • In the summer, the animal must be treated for fleas and ticks, also deworming is carried out once a month.

Features of education

Rottweilers are strong and confident dogs that require a human leader. The owner of the dog must constantly show him his leadership in the house. Rottweilers prefer to choose one “leader” in the house and listen only to him. To avoid such a situation, it is necessary to divide the care of the pet equally among all members of the family, it is even desirable to make a schedule of walking and feeding. Only in this case will the dog respect all household members.

Raising a dog must be dealt with from birth. First of all, the animal must know its place in the house; you must not allow it to feed from the table and sleep on the master's sofa. At the same time, do not bend the stick - this animal does not tolerate screams, insults and, moreover, physical impact. If you decide to hit your pet, he may well rush back.

The most working method is motivation - you need to lure the puppy with goodies, toys or a good voice, and as a punishment for misconduct, you can use a strict look, a single, unsharp twitching or deprivation of one feeding.

Dressura begin at 3-4 months. In the learning process should learn the basic commands:

At home keeping the animal must be walked twice a day for at least 1 hour. Usually dogs are taken to specially equipped sites. If your dog is not socialized enough, then it is better to walk in a forest belt, avoiding meeting with other dogs and crowds. We draw attention to the fact that the breed is officially listed as dangerous, because in most countries of the world a law has been passed, according to which such dogs can be walked exclusively on a leash and in a muzzle.

If the animal is kept on the street, then it is necessary to equip a running platform for it. If you cannot walk the dog twice a day, you can reduce the number of walks to one, but in this case it should be as active and mobile as possible - for example, the animal can be an ideal partner for runners and bike lovers.

Health care

Representatives of the Rottweilers are quite strong and healthy dogs that can boast of good immunity. However, despite this, the breed does not belong to centenarians - such dogs live only 8-12 years. Typical pedigree pathologies are not observed in them, although some dogs are susceptible to diseases of the musculoskeletal system common among molossians.

The most common of these is hip dysplasia - this is an incurable pathology that appears in lameness, frequent pain, and paw deformation. Not uncommon among rottweilers and osteochondrosis.

Also, the animal is prone to diabetes, cataracts, dermatitis, with improper feeding, digestive problems are observed.

Vaccinations are very important for the Rottweiler, which protect the dog from viral infections, which are transmitted by people, household items and other animals. Of course, not a single vaccination gives a full guarantee that the pet will not catch the virus, but unvaccinated animals are weak before the pathology and most often die in case of infection, while vaccinated dogs tolerate the disease more easily and recover quickly without undesirable consequences for the body.

The first two vaccinations are carried out in nurseries, puppies should be sold already vaccinated with all the necessary marks in the documents, usually the procedure is carried out in 1.5-2 months, when the puppy's maternal immunity weakens.

Be sure to make a comprehensive vaccination against the main diseases - hepatitis, enteritis, plague and others. Vaccinations should be updated annually. At the request of the breeder, an additional rabies vaccine can be added.
